报告题目: NanoMaterials and Coatings
报告摘要: Nanomaterials have been receiving a tremendous attention world-wide in the last three decades. Nanomaterials research takes a materials science-based approach to nanotechnology, leveraging advances in materials metrology and synthesis which have been developed in support of microfabrication research. Materials with structure at the nanoscale often have unique optical, electronic, or mechanical properties.
In this paper, the works carried out in Dr Qi Zhang’s research group in Cranfield University are introduced and mainly include the synthesis of nanomaterials and coatings, and the case studies of these materials in various applications, for example: inkjet printing of conductive nanomaterials, transparent conductive films, electrochromic effect, supercapacitors, antifouling, etc. Finally the work on the materials for non-linear dielectric materials for energy storage is to be presented.

CV of Dr. Qi Zhang:
Dr Qi Zhang received the BSc from Wuhan University, Wuhan, China in 1982, the M Eng from Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan, China in 1986 and the PhD degree from Chemistry Department, Monash University, Australia, in 1995.
In 1996, he joined the Nanotechnology Group, Cranfield University as a Research fellow, In 1999, he became a Senior Research Fellow and a senior lecturer in 2007. In 2012 he also acts as a professor in Wuhan University of Technology, China under Hubei “One Hundred People” program.
His main research interest lies in the materials for energy and nanotechnology in the applications of electrochemical energy storage (supercapacitor, Li-ion batteries), dielectric energy storage, nanomaterials and nanostructured materials, transparent conductive coatings, coatings for antifouling and growth of algae, and nanoink formulation for directly ink-jet printing. Dr Qi Zhang and co-authors first discovered the giant electrocaloric effect in ferroelectric thin films whose temperature can be changed by an electric field up to 12 oC. It potentially replaces the compressed refrigeration. This original work opens a new research avenue for the ferroelectric materials. His latest research interest goes into the extraction of the carbon nanosheets from natural waste materials for the uses of energy storage.
He is a fellow of Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), UK. He is also a charted scientist. He has authored or co-authored 160 journal and conference papers and several chapters in books. The total number of the citation of his papers reaches over 4000 and h factor is 23. He edited the book “Electrocaloric Materials” by Springer in 2013.
